30th National Congress of Our Lady of La Vang 2014

La Vang 2014La Vang 2014WCBCV -- The Church in Vietnam celebrated the 30th National Congress of Our Lady of La Vang in the archdiocese of Huế from August 13 to 15, 2014. The National Congress of Our Lady of Lavng is celebrated triennially. The pastoral theme of the Church in Vietnam this year, “New Evangelization of the Family,” was also the theme for the Congress.

Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, presided the opening Holy Mass for the Congress on August 13. Archbishop Francis Xavier Lê Văn Hồng of the archdiocese of Huế, Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm of the diocese of Mỹ Tho. Bishop Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm of the diocese of Bà Rịa, Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri of the diocese of Đà Nẵng, Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ of the diocese of Thái Bình, Bishop Joseph Nguyễn Tấn Tước of the diocese of Phú Cường, Bishop Alphonsus Nguyễn Hữu Long – Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese of Hưng Hóa, Bishop Stephen Tri Bửu Thiên of the diocese of Cần Thơ, Bishop Lawrence Chu Văn Minh – Auxiliary Bishop of Hà Nội, and 150 priests concelebrated this opening Holy Mass.

This 3-day Congress was organized with many devotional activities. In the hot climate of the central coast of Vietnam, more than a hundred thousands of people gathered to pray, celebrate the Eucharist, recite the rosary, venerate the Blessed Sacrament and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Congress closed on the Solemnity feast of the Assumption of Our Lady on August 15 in attendance of Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Holy See’s Non-resident Representative in Vietnam, who extended the Papal blessing to all attendees and the Church in Vietnam.
