The Shrine of MartyrsThe Shrine of MartyrsThe Shrine of Martyrs in Hải Dương province has served as a pilgrimage center for a long time. This place, formerly called Năm Mẫu, saw many local Catholics being killed for their faith in the 19th century. Four of them, canonized on June 19, 1988, were two Spanish Dominican Bishops Jerome Liêm and Valentine Vinh and Vietnamese Dominican Father Almato Bình. All were killed on November 1, 1861. Vietnamese Catechist Joseph Nguyễn Duy Khang was killed on December 6 that year. In 1927, a shrine with high twin towers was built and later was destroyed by bombings in 1967.
