2. Statistics

As of December 31, 2010, the Diocese had 196,932 Catholics including 2,569 ethnic Kh'mer and 453 ethnic Chinese at 141 parishes, 34 of which have no resident priests. It was served by 189 priests, 468 religious, 67 seminarians, 55 seminary candidates and 971 catechists. 1,921 baptisms were recorded that year. In a land area of 13,423.10 square-kilometers, the diocese covers Cần Thơ City (except Thốt Nốt district belonging to Long Xuyên diocese) and the provinces of Bạc Liêu, Cà Mau and Sóc Trăng.

4. Catholic Sites

Tắc Sậy Pilgrimage CenterTắc Sậy Pilgrimage CenterTắc Sậy Pilgrimage Center is a place where Father Francis Xavier Trương Bửu Diệp (1897-1946) was buried. He and 70 Catholics were reportedly arrested on March 12, 1946 and later his body was found in a pond. He was interred at Khúc Treo church and later was moved to Tắc Sậy church in 1969. The center including a church and buildings for pilgrims was rebuilt in 2010. Tens of thousands of people including non-Catholics offer incense, flower and even roast pork and pray in front of the tomb of the Martyr on March 12.
